Ahh, so that's what the brightly colored window covering actually looks like...Skype doesn't do it justice.

Mailing and Contact Info

I've recently learned that I can no longer have mail sent to the address below and I'll be getting my own PO Box sometime in the next month. In the meantime, don't send anything else to this address. If it has already been sent then it's no problem, but anything sent starting now that arrives after Feb 3rd I'll have to pick up in Kigali myself/pay any holding fees for...Ya, apparently they are getting stricter about this starting now...Thanks love you all!

Tips about sending me mail (based on what I've read):

- Write "Air Mail/Par Avion" on EVERYTHING you send in big red letters

- Number the packages/letters so I know which ones arrive first or get lost (hopefully not but it does happen).

- Do not bother sending anything express, it's completely pointless

- Writing religious things in red ink on the package/letter apparently greatly increases the chances I will get it (it's a very Catholic country, so think crosses and Jesus references)

- Include an itemized list so I can tell if anything has been removed (as I understand, this does happen sometimes unfortunately)

-Be as vague as possible without lying on the customs form and do not indicate anything of value. Stick the word "used" in front of everything whenever you can.

- Insure and certify what you send, and claim it as miscellaneous

- Which brings me to my next point....Do not send anything very valuable (it will be likely to mysteriously never arrive or be missing from the package when I get it)

- If sending a postcard, use an envelope. Apparently otherwise the pretty pictures are too strongly attractive for someone to resist taking and putting on their wall....

- Using flat rate shipping boxes are usually the cheapest option for sending things (and again, shipping speed really won't effect how quickly I actually receive it).

Books (but only if it’s something I can’t get on a Kindle)

Good Pens (not stick pens, it’s all I’ve really found) and Pencils (mechanical)

Graham Crackers

Herbs/Spices? Though I think I got quite a few/more are already en route

Instant Coffee

Magazines: Anything, including Nat. Geographic, Time, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Men’s Health, NYT Magazine, any other magazines you don’t want, including trashy ones ha…They are also good for using as a teaching resource for English stuff

Malted Milk (random as hell, I know)

Maple syrup/maple candy

New Music, TV Shows, Movies (via CD/DVD or Flash drive?)

Nuts/Dried Fruit/Trail Mix

Protein Bars (Cliff, Kashi, Powerbar, whatever…)

Protein Powder

Recent pictures of people…Always nice to have some to look at…

Tea

Teaching Resources (anything from books to materials or anything for general teaching or ESL)
